Meet Dr. Matsumoto

My profession is so much more than treating patients' periodontal disease; it’s about building relationships with my patients and helping them to live better, healthier lives. Our patients are real people from all walks of life, and I love hearing their life stories, and learning about their interests and experiences. I've enjoyed the friendships I’ve made with my patients over the years.

One of my life goals is to be the best possible doctor, teacher, and human being I can be. To help achieve this goal, I take classes at University of Washington School of Dentistry and also attend continuing education classes in medicine and psychology. In addition to taking continuing education, I have also offered and sponsored many continuing education courses for local dentists.  I have taught at University of Washington School of Dentistry since 1991, and currently am an affiliate professor there.

Outside the Office

I grew up in Japan until I was 18 years old, when I moved to the US as a high school senior foreign exchange student. After graduating from dental school, I moved to Washington to complete my periodontal training. I’ve lived in Bellevue for 12 years with my wife and our school-aged daughter.

I love to spend time with my family, but when I’m not with them, my hobbies include classical music, reading and art. I also do a lot of weight training at a gym and train at a local mixed martial arts gym alongside famous professional fighters. I am passionate about becoming a better martial artist and have a fourth degree black belt in Karate, having earned the title of Sensei.
